WOW!

I cannot belive how much rubbish is NOT in out bin!

The bin was collected last week and so far the only rubbish that has gone into the bin is plastic which cannot be recycled, which actually is very little. We use disposable nappies for Baby B as because of my condition I cannot guarantee that I can wash they quick enough to be used again althoguh when Baby B starts potty training we have some reuseables ones for then! The disposbale nappies are as present going into a box with a lid in the garden!

Let the Challenge begin

Well the bin was collected yesterday.

So today we start with an clean slate well actually a dirty bottomed bin.

Mr L has been away for a week so last night him and I had a lovely scrummy Chinese takeaway as a treat. After ordering it I suddenly though argh what are we going to do with the rubbish.

Well after some thought I think we may be sorted :-

The actually Chinese dishes and rice came in reusable plastic containers which have been washed and stored in the plastic cupboard ready for putting our own food in for freezing.

The plastic bag that the Prawn Crackers and the carrier which it was delivered in are both polythene so that is now in the box earmarked for that purpose.

The foil tray that our Chicken Satay sticks came in is now in the foil box

The only one thing that I thought may cause a problem was the skewers that the satay was on well they have been washed and clean and they are now going to be used for plant props which I start growing seedlings.

So nothing from our treat will end up going into landfill.

However I cannot say the same for our Breakfast this morning.

We had a full cooked breakfast and although about half of the packaging is indeed recyclable the other half is not I have put the non-recyclable plastic into a carry bag and when the not so clean bin had been hosed out I will put them into the bin.

Challenge: One bin a month or less!

Right tomorrow our Bin is going to be collected and hopefully that will be the last time that it will be collected for 1 month!

We have set ourselves a challenge of our bin being collected once a month or less. Now this is going to prove interesting as we are on a very limited budget, we have no place to store massive bulk buy items and we are a family of six with a 19 month old still in nappies!

We have be inspired by http://myzerowaste.com/ you have probably seen this wonderful family on the news on tv recently as they created only ONE bin of rubbish for a whole year!

Well we are going to do ours slowly because not only is it about not throwing things away but it is about not bringing things into the house that will eventually have to end up in Landfil! So we have to change the way we think, the way we shop and the way we bin things!

Self Employed

Well It's offical I am now self employed.

So there you go Deesis is now offically my employer.

Am planning on making cards, Knitted toys, Favours and anything else that takes my fancy and uses up the very large stash of crafting goods I have in my work area.

so the first thing I am going to put up for people to look at is a set of hand knitted fingerless mitts.



They are hand dyed and hand knitting in 100% wool which is called Woodland Walk perfect for this time of year. Autumn colours on the trees. The leaves falling in great flurries and kicking welly boots throught the fallen leaves whilst wrapped up walking in the wood!

Well the kids are indeed back at school and my day is slowly getting back into a normal routine!

DS4 sleeps in the morning whilst I do housework then he is up and around!

While he sleeps I also try to cram in a bit of craft and at the moment am working my way around a shawl for a Christmas Present! I have now started this shawl 4 times hopefully this time will be the last that i have to completely restart it!

It only has a pattern repeat of 8 rows so my new strategy is too do only 8 rows a night that is one pattern repeat. But also have something else on the go like some washcloths for teachers presents!

And they are back!

Well that was a very long six weeks!

I really love being fortunate to be a stay at home mum but sometimes I like peace as well.

Having 4 boys can be a little difficult at times it really does eat into my crafting time! LOL

I have however managed to start and finish a shawl it is beautiful and have started another one to give as a gift at Christmas!
Hopefully as they are all now back in school I can start to get the house straight and get some crafting done to start sorting out he Christmas presents which I need to make!

Back from Holiday

Well we are back and we survived! Just about the first half of the week was very wet and had several points we thought we might have to dig trenches around the tent. The second half of the week was wonderful sunshine.

All the elephants enjoy themselves and and a great reunion. They spent ages in the long grass trumpeting and playing Hide and Seek with each other.
